PRP Sports Medicine Treatments

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has been studied as a treatment option for osteoarthritis and other conditions. These include ligament, meniscus, tendon injuries, and partial tears. Other conditions associated with injury and inflammation may be suitable for treatment as well. Our sports medicine physicians Dr. Lachman and Dr. MacDonald are experienced in injecting shoulders, knees, tennis elbow, the achilles tendon, and plantar fascia. On-site ultrasound imaging may be done to aid in diagnosis and treatment. PRP uses the body’s own growth factors to trigger its natural healing process, PRP injections work to reduce pain and restore function with few to no side effects.

We start the procedure by drawing your blood and spinning it in our centrifuge to extract the PRP. Most joints will require two injections four to six weeks apart. A consultation with Dr. Lachman or Dr. MacDonald is required prior to booking to determine if you are a good candidate for this treatment.
